Larry Lynch, Governor (2018-19)It’s time to ring out the old year and bring in the new year. It’s time to ring out the old century “Bringing out the best in kids” and ring in the new century “Bringing out the best into the next century”.

I want to thank Dee Friel for the wonderful job she and her team did during the 2017 – 2018 Optimist Year. They worked hard and should be proud of their accomplishments. Congratulations on a job well done!

Now, it’s time to start a most important year for our Optimist organization. The “Promise Yourself” year. It’s the start of our Centennial Year. One Hundred Years of serving the children of our communities. We need to continue the outstanding service we bring to the communities into the next century. You, the members of our clubs, continue to support your communities by the many projects you perform throughout the year. I know these events bring a lot of joy and enjoyment to the kids, parents and you as an Optimist. Thank you for all that you do.

It’s time to get on our horses and start the race. Let’s hit the ground running and get off to a fast start. We have a lot to do. We have members to bring in and get them working on projects. Time to look into building some new clubs to bring our optimism into new communities to help more kids.

We have some special training coming up at the First Quarter Conference at the Lodge of the Four Seasons at Lake of the Ozarks on October 26-27. We will have the Optimist 100 training. Optimist 100 will cover four unique topics to assist us in accomplishing our goals for the year. These topics will be enlightening, and promote some very valuable discussions on the future of our organization. We will also have our International Vice President, Gerri Barnett, visiting our district. So, come out and show her how West Missouri comes together for training and fun.

Our second quarter conference on February 15-16, 2019 will be a very special event. It will be held at the Adams Mark Hotel in Kansas City. We will be conducting a Tri-Conference with us, East Missouri and Kansas. We will also have International President Rebecca Butler Mona visiting us this quarter. We will be celebrating the Kentucky Derby this quarter. Along with training, we will be having a Ratucky Derby. So, show up in your best Ratucky attire and fascinator (southern belle) hats to celebrate the evening.

Those are just a few highlights for the upcoming year in West Missouri. I look forward to working with each of you as we spread Optimism throughout the district and “bringing out the best into the next century”.

Thank you for allowing me to serve as your Governor this year. I’m honored and proud for the opportunity to serve the district, you and the children of our communities.
